There's outrage across the country, after the death of 14 year old girl at a police compound in Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh. The victim's family says that the girl was raped and murdered by policemen, while the police say that she committed suicide.
The 14-year-old was found dead on Friday (10-June-2011), tied to a tree by her dupatta at a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district.
The second autopsy conducted on the minor girl's body, which was found hanging from a tree within the compound of the police station on Friday night, confirmed that the victim was murdered.
However, the postmortem could not confirm the rape of the girl, as alleged by the family.
The second postmortem was carried out on Monday (13-June-2011) on the orders of chief minister Mayawati after the family refused to accept the report of the first postmortem carried out by the local doctors.
